| Wellwood holds grand opening of new cancer support centre |

Hamilton, ON -- Hundreds of people -- including founders, architects, home builders, community partners, neighbours, donors, staff, clients and volunteers -- were there on a glorious, sunny afternoon when Wellwood officially opened the doors of its new home on June 7, welcoming everyone to this long-awaited new second site for the local cancer support centre. Wellwood Juravinski House, presented by Hamilton-Halton Home Builders' Association (HHHBA), is located at 501 Sanatorium Road (at the intersection of Chedmac, Rice and Sanatorium,) on the outskirts of the grounds of Chedoke Hospital. The bright, beautiful and fully-accessible home, designed by McCallum Sather Architects, has been named for Margaret and Charles Juravinski, as an expression of appreciation for their contribution of an endowment fund that generates regular income to help Wellwood manage the increased operating costs associated with the new site.
Wellwood is a local charity dedicated to helping cancer patients, their families, caregivers and health care providers to "live well" with cancer. The Centre offers about 25 different services, and there are almost 250 active trained volunteers involved in the design and delivery of programs. All of Wellwood's services are free of charge to everyone.
Currently housed at Henderson Hospital, Wellwood will also maintain its Centre there to assist people who need immediate access to support, and would benefit from services that are provided closer to the Hospital and the adjacent Juravinski Cancer Centre. The new community site, Juravinski House, will provide an escape from the clinical environment for those affected by cancer to deal with the long-term and life-altering emotional and physical impacts of a cancer journey.
